As with any amateur sport, costs to play can get expensive. Entering teams into regattas, designing and purchasing team jerseys and jackets, purchasing specialized training equipment, team paddles and life jackets, as well as administration and social media costs, all add up.
The Pirates do just about anything they can to help reduce these costs. The Pirates hold various fundraising events throughout the dragon boat season. Paddlers will literally climb over themselves to get into one of these events.
Pub Nights
Pub nights are such a staple in the dragon boat community. Not only do they allow the team to raise money they also allow the paddlers a chance to get together in a non paddling setting.
Dates for the Pirates Pub Nights will be detailed once confirmed. Check back often.
Booze Baskets
Someone once asked me,
“What is a booze basket?”.
“Well”, I said. It is a basket that is filled with booze.
“How do I win a booze basket?”.
“Well, you have to buy raffle tickets and hope to hell you win it”, I replied.
Tickets will go on sale once the baskets are created. Check back for more details
50/50 Draws
50/50 draws have been around since the beginning of time (or so it seems). Teams sell tickets and the money collected is split between the winning ticket holder and the team. Another great way to generate team funding
Silent Auctions
Silent Auctions are usually incorporated into the traditional pub night. Team members will hunt high and low looking for items to auction off during the evening. Quantity and quality of items vary vastly from one year to the next. What will be available this year? That’s the million dollar question.
Fundraising Dates
The Pirates Fundraising Committee are hard at work getting things organized for the 2023 season. They are pounding the pavement, making phone calls and basically doing anything they can to help us raise the much needed funds to allow us to paddle.
Please check back for all fundraising dates. They will be posted as they are made available
